University Compliance

Welcome

The University Compliance Office (UCO) supports the Cornell community by providing guidance, tools, and resources to help promote a culture of compliance and ethics. Our work is grounded in Cornell’s core values and aligned with Cornell’s Seven Elements of Ethics and Compliance Excellence, which guide our approach to building and sustaining a strong culture of integrity and accountability. Through these elements, we focus on Oversight; Policies, Programs, and Procedures (3P); Education and Communication; Internal Monitoring and Auditing; Organization and Infrastructure; Reporting and Enforcement; and Response and Prevention.

We partner across the university to strengthen resilient compliance programs, support ethical decision-making, and thoughtfully balance regulatory obligations with Cornell’s mission-driven activities.

Established in January 2020 at the request of then-President Martha E. Pollack, the University Compliance Office is led by the Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer (CCPO). The CCPO reports directly to the Vice President and Chief Risk Officer (VPCRO), with a functional reporting relationship to the Audit, Risk, and Compliance Committee (ARCC) of the Board of Trustees, and an administrative reporting line to the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer (EVP-CFO).

The University Compliance Office team is dedicated to supporting Cornell's mission of learning, discovery, and engagement. Visit our office mission statement to learn more.
